CONTROL OF CONTRACTORS
Contractors can be especially useful when organisations need to undertake a task that perhaps requires a particular skill that they don’t readily possess within their own workforce. Using contractors can provide a clear operating benefit, but does come with certain reservations, especially in terms of the business importing risk (how good are the individuals you have chosen)?
The selection of the right contractor for a particular job is probably the most important element in ensuring that the risks to H&S of everybody involved in the activity and people in the vicinity are reduced as far as possible. Ideally, contractor selection should be made from a list of approved suppliers who have demonstrated that they are able to meet the client’s H&S requirements.
AJB42 Consulting Ltd can help ensure that potential contractors are 'competent' in H&S terms. An organisation’s good reputation and customer’s perception of that position is a strong commercial asset and poor H&S performance can damage that reputation. Poor H&S performance by Contractors selected to work for, or on behalf of your organisation, can be equally damaging.
AJB42 Consulting's experience / notable achievements in this area of Health & Safety
Provided support for IT / Telecommunciations Company (UK & Ireland) in the role of H&S Manager (2 year full time secondment) whilst co-ordinating OHSAS18001 implementation and registration. The role reported to the Head of Occupational Safety & Health with responsibility for corporate H&S functions including control of contractors (both internal and external selection / accreditation to approved supply list).
Implementation of bespoke H&S Management System for Social Housing ALMO, including policies, procedures, and training along with the development of client personnel before handover to in-house team. Three-year assignment included working with DLO & contractors on CDM refurbishment projects.
Worked with major Facilities Management Company supporting FM employees on client sites, delivering management systems, contractor control, training, auditing & front line support.
